Where do my visitors come from?

Your analytics page ranks where visitors arrived from: direct, Google, Instagram, Facebook, and everything else grouped as other.

Direct means no referring website was recorded. People read this as "typed the address in", but it is broader than that. Links from messaging apps, most email clients, QR codes and anything a browser declines to attribute all land in direct. For a property site this is usually the largest bucket and it is a good sign — it is what word of mouth looks like.

Google is organic search. Expect this to be small early. A new site competing on generic terms is up against listing sites with decades of history, and the search that realistically finds you is someone looking for your property by name.

Instagram and Facebook are links from those platforms, including from a bio link.

Other is every other referring site — a tourism board, a local directory, a blog, a friend's website.

The useful thing here is not the ranking on any given day, it is the change after you do something. Put the address in your Instagram bio and watch that bucket. Get listed by the regional tourism association and watch other. A number that does not move after a fortnight is telling you the channel did not work for you.

One caveat worth holding onto: this counts visits, not bookings. A source can send plenty of curious traffic and no reservations, and that is still useful to know — it just means the traffic is the wrong kind, not that the channel is broken.
